Let’s Do Lunch: A Woc’s life in the Pandemic

About this project

Their cause

My organization creates spaces for women of color to share their experiences and build community. As a child, I felt there were a lot of things that weren’t talked about in communities of color and too many things normalized based on the racist history in America. I wanted to create a space where WOC, like myself, felt comfortable and heard as we talk about these subjects. In past events we’ve covered topics like the importance of community and how to dismantle negative views on how people of color dress. I hope to continue to use my brand as a way for woc to be uplifted.

How they'll use their space

Under Curated.byYolande is a dinner series, Let’s Do Lunch, that’s dedicated to building community among woc. Each dinner party, we discussed different topics that woc face. My goal for this series is to establish environments that put woc together to develop bonds and reestablish an understanding of "it takes a village". Every dinner I have the opportunity to see woc leave feeling like they just gained family that's dedicated to their growth and success just as much as they are. I would use this scholarship to have my 4th dinner party in the series. The topic will focus on woc’s life in the pandemic.

What is Space for Change?

Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.

Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.

Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
