About this project

Their cause

Social Responsiblity in Fashion- to change fast-fashion into slow- fashion. I am a black-owned business owner that is tackling the fast fashion world with slow fashion handbags. Fast-fashion unsold inventory waste is the second leading cause of pollution in the world, while 93% of brands surveyed by the Fashion Checker aren’t paying garment workers a living wage” (Fashion Checker, 2020) - fast-fashion also contributes to sweatshops and low paying wages, even in some cases there are human trafficking instances as people are forced to work in factories in deplorable oversees conditions. For those brands that do make their clothing, they tend to overproduced their inventory- needing to destroy or send the waste to a landfill. My slow-fashion handbags are the ticket to a better world, where we can wait for fashion to be a real statement, not something rushed just to have. This can reduce the rushed manufacturing and unnecessary factory minimums that also contributes to this pollution. I am based in New York, and I create made-order handbags that are made only in America and source my materials ethically, including Made in America based packaging. I am alumni of Parsons School of Design.

How they'll use their space

I will do a photoshoot and video to represent the handbag collection. I also will film an About Section so that I can launch a crowdfunding campaign.

What is Space for Change?

Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.

Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.

Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
