The cause I am working on is a gala to raise money for a Teen Summit this summer. Through my non-profit Hattie's Dream Foundation, I help enhance the quality of the lives of teens and families residing in New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Developments. At Hattie's Dream Foundation, we're providing girls with the education, empowerment and exposure to achieve their dreams through our mentorship program. As a previous resident of NYCHA, I realized there were no resources within my local community to help me get to where I needed to be in life. I always had to leave my community to get academic and social resources. Hattie's Dream Foundation aims to be that resources for girls in communities that are often overlooked.
I will use this space by hosting a ticketed and socially-distance gala in New York City to raise funds for the Teen Summit we aim to host the end of this summer.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
