Expectation vs. Reality

About this project

Their cause

Educating the public about the prevalence of sexual assault in the U.S. (and around the world) is a cause very close to my heart. I've been working on and gathering data for a short film that demonstrates the expectations vs realities of sexual assault survivors, illustrating that there is not one definition of "sexual assault," nor is there one "right" way to heal from it. My goal is to create a video to be released during April (maybe of next year), as it is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. COVID-19 threw a wrench in my process, as the video requires intimate moments, which have been difficult to work around while physical distancing.

How they'll use their space

I would use the Peerspace locations as a film set / studio instead of having to use somebody's apartment during this distanced time.

What is Space for Change?

Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.

Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.

Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
