Making Waves Project : 2020 will be a year that no one will forget. We sheltered in place, cheered on our healthcare workers, and tried our best to maintain a sense of sanity. This time of social distancing has been filled with millions of stories of people creating their own normal and “Making Waves” sought to tell as many of those as possible. In this new portrait series, LA based photographer Robiee Ziegler, documents the quarantine stories of residents throughout Los Angeles County as they become a part of our history. She reminds us all through the images she’s captured, that even though we may feel lonely during this time of separation, we are not alone (and she did it all following the strictest Covid guidelines). The premise of the project is a friend stopping by to say “hello!” and hear about your day and, through each image you can feel the power of community. From individuals braving quarantine on their own, to requests for Robiee to capture the smiles of friends or family members who have been separated because of the pandemic, “Making Waves” shares the stories of how these new social boundaries have directly affected the daily lives of so many residents here in Los Angeles.Driven by donations and highlighting the resilience of individuals throughout our community, the daily images and stories continue to serve as a light for many in these rather dark times and a reminder that we’re all in this together. The day will come when the world starts up again and traffic returns to the 101, but until then, we will be “Making Waves” for all of us.
Peerspace has always been my go to platform for finding a space that helps with story telling. It's all about having everything come together to paint the picture, or better yet in this case capture a story. With past projects we've rented spaces that help tie a story together, homes, set stages, etc. Going forward for this project I'd like to dedicate a part of this project to people in need while highlighting the brand that is helping make all of this possible and if that means using a studio, event space or a staged home, we're going to get the story across with captivating visuals and spaces. Because after all the idea of peerspace is all about helping each-other out through rents, creativity and business.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
