OnPurpose Enrichment's (OnPurpose) Color IT Houston Initiative aims to increase people of color in the IT industry. Our programs embraces a strengths-based approach to up-skilling our youth by adopting the paid apprenticeship model with an integrated coaching framework. Youth accepted into the program may choose two career pathways; 1) Help Desk Technician; and 2) Digital Marketing. During the program youth will gain paid on-the-job training, education and case management designed to accommodate work schedules, an industry-recognized credential, and career coaching and job placement assistance. It is no secret that the technology industry struggles when it comes to building inclusive workplaces where women and people of color and other underrepresented groups are adequately represented. Combined, Black and Latino employees represented just 3% to 5% of employees at the 23 highest-grossing tech companies, according to a 2016 analysis by the Kapor for Social Impact. OnPurpose is committed to increasing access to high-demand and high-growth IT careers for minority youth between the ages of 16 and 24. Specifically, for disadvantaged youth living in low-income communities.
Winning this project will allow us to host our first fundraising Gala, "Together Towards Purpose". For the past five years, OnPurpose has dedicated its fundraising efforts to individual solicitations and grant proposals. This year we are finally ready to host a Gala/ Student Digital Art Exhibit to celebrate our success while securing our financial future. PeerSpace is the ideal location for this event! The attached photo is a representation of the students who will be designing the Digital Art Displays and participating in the Gala.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
