I'm currently committed to creating space for and curating content to cultivate Black Joy. Too often, media focuses on our trials and tribulations as a community instead of highlighting our diversity, talents, and the resilient power of our laughter. Even light media relies on overdone and deleterious tropes and stereotypes for impact. I am working on a project that disrupts the idea of a Black Monolith and celebrates every Black experience.
I want to create a short series that showcases the diversity of the Black experience in New York. I will highlight our talents through skits and music. Unfortunately, I don't currently have access to a film space or equipment to bring my vision to life. My hope is that we can partner together and make more accurate and diverse representation a reality.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
