Hello PeerSpace Team, Thank you for the opportunity to apply to the Space for Change campaign. My name is Bukky Ojeifo and I have the pleasure of serving as the Founder and Executive Director of HairOnPurpose Inc. HairOnPurpose is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization empowering generations of black girls and women through hair education.Since 2015, we have invested programming resources in neighborhoods and communities in hopes of inspiring young black girls to live, love and learn about their hair and we are excited to continue our mission in 2021.In communities around the country, there is a significant financial support of non-profit organizations that are committed to educating and empowering youth, specifically in areas such as academics, arts, business, entertainment, science and technology, etc. However, there's one seemingly untapped area – the organized education and empowerment of our youth through hair and scalp health.Hair is such an integral and important part of a black and brown girl/woman's identity that is not an area of our life that one can be neutral or passive about. There is no instruction manual or how-to given to families who take on this task at home, so HairOnPurpose seeks to fill this untapped space to teach empowering hair skills and provide critical education/resources for them to take pride in their hair journey!
If given the sponsorship, HairOnPurpose will use the space to safely shoot the video tutorials for our HairOnPurpose Membership Box subscription. The The HairOnPurpose membership box is a step by step, fully equipped hair tutorial box delivered to homes of black and brown families monthly. Inspired by families looking to take the guesswork out of the hairstyling process or be more comfortable styling their kids hair regularly, this box comes with every item they need to create the styles of the month. The video tutorial allow them to follow along step by step. We'd love to have a Peer space that is a reflection of the spirit to which we want these families to have and experience with the HairOnPurpose team.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
