I am currently in production of a documentary called The Plus Side of RAW. Two-thirds of women in America are a size 14 or larger but are considered the minority. This film addresses the need for body normality, inclusivity, representation, and self love to curb the suicide rate that has tripled among girls that are the same age my daughter would have been, 7-13.
There is a small group of black plus size dancers in Charlotte we are in need of a dance space to film. Additionally, we plan to shoot them as regal Queens influenced by African culture, to connect the idea that black is still very beautiful and plus size does not equal lazy or powerless.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
