I am working on a project that focuses on dispelling myths about and celebrating the Asian American diaspora, specifically in the wake of the anti-Asian hate crimes we have seen since the pandemic began. I am connected to it because I am Asian American, and have experienced levels of micro-aggressions and anti-Asian behavior. I have participated in the rallies for Asian Americans in Oakland, and have created a video that is on NowThis about the patrols being done in Chinatown. I want to create images using photo and video that help dispel myths about our people and also celebrate the rich diversity of our people, and in the end, take a stand against hate toward our people.
I will utilize the space as a backdrop for photoshoots and video shoots that I will invite diverse faces to participate in across the Asian American diaspora.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
