About this project

Their cause

For the past 4 years I've been working on a project titled Figures of Color, a long term observation of stark Black skin. It is my most personal project and I plan on expanding the series into a book one day. I'm inspired by Kerry James Marshall paintings and intend on positioning large scale prints of the images in major museums.

How they'll use their space

I want to photograph Omar Tate in Philadelphia for a series titled Figures of Color. It is a series that focuses on the timeless aesthetic beauty of Black people and brings their stories into focus. Omar Tate is a prominent chef in Phildelphia and was recently featured on TIME Magazine. We plan on collaborating and bringing attention to his dish titled "Clorindy" which is informed by a radical Black history.

What is Space for Change?

Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.

Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.

Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
