WATE has been working to make sure that women from every borough can connect through finding nutritional ways to cook in an effort to reduce illnesses linked to cardiovascular disease and obesity. We have also connected women with conversations that combat the stigma around mental health illnesses. Through this pandemic I've had to find new ways to connect with these women virtually but honestly its not the same. As social creatures we need to feel the presence of others in our space, and like everyone else, I've experienced the loneliness that the #stayhome orders created. I've run out of ways to make better meals and have resorted to rice and pasta and have gained the pandemic 15. It has also been a challenge to be in fellowship and to express myself without making others I live with uncomfortable because of how stifling the stay at home order has been. The space I have created "in person" for these ladies in the past, is the space I didn't' know was NEEDED. I am betting that other women are missing that space too.
This space will be used to host the event similar to the one that we canceled approximately 1 year ago which was entitled RELAX, RELATE, RELEASE: A Vision Board event around Mental Health & Wellness. This time around, I want it to be an event where women can clear with the world in a fashion that they can be emotional, authentic, connected and in person. I want them to journal this time, and also put their ideas on a Victory Board to see that they are actually coming through on the other side of a long 365 days.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
