New Moon home is a social enterprise that exists to empower survivors of human sex trafficking. Our business is minority-owned and ran by myself and another woman and we are both former survivors of childhood sexual abuse. We both have a passion to provide healing and resources to other women who have suffered through similar or even more pervasive sexual trauma. Because of our stories, we individually have a desire to provide support for sex trafficked survivors through job employment. Using our skills and passions combined, we are empowering survivors of human trafficking through creating job opportunities through this home goods venture. We believe that providing jobs leads to systemic change, ending the cycle of addiction, poverty, and abuse which the marginalized group of women we work with face on the day to day. Along with the employement opuurtunities, we also do outreaches to lower income, and predominantley black neighbords where women are working on the streets in prostitution on Los Angeles's largest "tracks", knowing that most of these women are indeed victims of human trafficking and exploitation. We are also currently providing short term housing for one woman. 50% of our profits goes directly to the women we serve.
If we are lucky enough to win this, we would utilize this oppurtunity for two things. One, we would use space to do a photoshoot of some of our products. We are getting ready to launch some more home goods, so this would be very useful to us on a marketing stand point. The second and more pressing thing we would utilize this for is to throw an event, like a fashion show, where we would get to showcase our products, and share our vision with the public. ( covid permitting of course).
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
