One of my intentions with my photography is “you deserve to be seen and feel seen”. I am a Latinx, first generation Mexican-American and it’s important to me to document the joy, love and connection between families. Many Latinx families have sparse photographs and the reasons vary from immigration, poverty, or it just wasn’t a priority to the family. Having photographs to pass down to family is like giving your future generations a look into their history. I want to support people with documenting their family’s history. Photographs tell our stories. Our stories are powerful, unifying tools that connect mankind, breaks down barriers, and heals wounds. Feeling seen by others is a basic human need.I also want to bring culture to lifestyle photography. When I search for inspiration on Pinterest for instance, I never see families that look like mine or families from my community represented. I am a photographer so I would photograph families.
I will take photos of families large and small as well as multigenerational families that have never had family portraits taken.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
