My art is displaying the textures of my experiences as a black/mexican gay man. All my art contains a narrative of struggle within the marginalized communities that I am part of. I have struggled to identify as I am a mixed man that talked "white" and the races that I grew up around didn't know how to accept me. Growing up in the church with my parents being ministers my secret "gay lifestyle" was shunned. I grew up to tolerate my struggle and found peace within music. My music and videos all display longing, identity crisis but in a way where it is in the pop music soundscape. I want to be a voice to all little kids of color and identities that their struggle is not their own and we all must fight this together.
I will use the space for photoshoots but primarily music videos that envelop different narratives of depression, anxiety and escape.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
