Equal pay is a social justice and equality issue that plagues people of color and women in America. Through my organization, CareerConvos LLC, I cultivate conversations about careers and currency that include strategies to address the pay inequities effecting those disfranchised the most - women and minorities. I am actively trying to help close the wage gap by teaching live and interactive workshops on Salary Negotiation as well as provide one-on-one salary and career coaching to women and people of color. By helping them understand how they can advocate for themselves within unfair systems and earn an equitable wage in the job market, I am serving as a valuable tool in their personal and generational wealth building journeys.I am connected to this cause because it energizes me to hear people say they have rarely seen a black woman in her 30's talk about this topic. This cause has grown from my passion of 5+ years of dogged focus on salary negotiation research and techniques (that I have facilitated to people globally), plus 10+ years of career coaching and profiling the entrepreneurial/financial journeys of women and minorities. Financial literacy/empowerment has historically been a white and male dominated space. I am here to change that with a passion that stems from both sides of the table: Side 1. Professionally, I spent almost a decade as a management consultant advising business leaders on best practices for performance management and compensation strategies. Side 2. In my own experience, I've witnessed glaring pay inequities for women and minorities that need to be eradicated through tough conversations to dismantle the very systems reinforcing this injustice.
I will use the PeerSpace location to film detailed, thoughtful, and inspiring discussions/interviews around how women of color and minorities can successfully advocate for equal pay in the job market. My passion is careers and currency and I am able to cultivate conversations around careers and currency through my role as an executive producer and host. You will see two YouTube videos below where I needed professional looking studio spaces to record conversations about women and minorities on how they found the money (and the obstacles they overcame to obtaining that capital) to build their businesses. The interviews I film in the PeerSpace location will be focused on real-life examples & tactics on salary negotiation and used as teaching tools (as well as keen insight and inspiration) to help others.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
