Yo! LGBT Raps aims to bring visibility, diversity, and awareness to the culture of Hip-Hop. Hip-hop lacks a women's voice, a women's perspective. The voice and viewpoint of MPW (masculine-presenting women) are not even considered when gender equality and representation in mainstream media are discussed. YLR strives to answer the question Where are all the women in Hip-Hop? By introducing the most underrepresented person, the black masculine-presenting woman and their stories with respect, value, and sustainability.
Yo! LGBT Raps is a music video web series providing Queer entertainment with a focus on our LGBT Music Video Countdown. This platform is used to showcase the talents found within our community and beyond. We have been producing the show for 10 years, this past January and we would use the space to film a live recording with a small intimate audience. The show would include an interview portion, live performances, and live a discussion based on MPW in Hip-Hop. and the completed project will be used to create a pilot and first episode to be pitched for a larger production.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
