The college experience is often glamorized and idolized by American society for the social interactions. COVID deprived students of that opportunity. However, racism is a greater pandemic than COVID, and collegians of color are not immune to it.New York City in all of its size and grandeur neglects outlets of nightlife expression for youth under drinking age, and NYC campuses lack either spatial capacity or critical mass of diversity to provide avenues for collegians of color to connect intercollegiately.
In winning the credit, the funds will be used to help rent a space in support of MWBE and diversity, equity and inclusion to provide an outlet for collegians of color safely reconnect, socialize, re-energize in a space intentionally curated for them.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
