The HAPI Community Empowerment Dinner is an event that recognizes three nonprofit organizations, community leaders, politicians, and business owners for their work in the community. The HAPI Community Empowerment Dinner is an essential aspect of what is called the HAPI movement, which is the execution of ideas and concepts set forth for the development of economic empowerment. The HAPI Movement started with the release of the highlight anticipated and important HAPI Film. HAPI is hugely positive, affirming, and inspirational. The HAPI Film presents a snapshot of economic history spanning from the dawn of civilization to today. As an activist and a filmmaker (Taaqiy Grant), I understand that to be effective one must be committed to leadership, particularly during the Coronavirus pandemic. During the evening everyone will have an opportunity to present their programs to all attendees while establishing pathways for the future. The agenda will also include a panel discussion that will focus on 3 of the following: • Community Wellness• Senior Care• Child Care• Mental Health• Prison Reform/re-Entry• Homeless Outreach• Youth Development• Community Gardens & Food Distribution• Vocation Training• Computer Coding & Technology• Financial LiteracyThe aim of the HAPI Movement is to spread economic literacy and create a dialogue that will lead to financial literacy. One of the main points of the film is to create solutions that are obtainable and easily implemented. Additionally, it is important to note how politics has an economic impact, and how the two work in conjunction with each other. It is important that HAPI Film is not just a lesson in history, but something that we will be able to apply to our everyday lives. HAPI is more than just a film it is a movement of economic wellness. It is wonderful for convincing those that the future is bright and with a little effort we can obtain our goals. Last year we had the 1st annual Community Empowerment Day. Due to Covid - 19 - the event took place outside, which happened to be the windiest day of the summer. We were able to gather some footage of the event, however due to the set and podium blowing away constantly, most of the adults had to secure the set - leaving the camera to be operated by a young person. The second YouTube video showcases two of the recipients of the HAPI Economic Award 2020. Feel free to check out our HAPI Film YouTube channel for more (better) videos. We host a weekly online show that interviews community leaders, scholars, politicians, historians and economists.
The purpose of this event is to create a forum that will highlight the efforts of the invited guests (non-for profits) in an effort bridge gaps and to create real-time opportunities for people of the African Diaspora. The agenda will focus on what is needed for African Americans, Women of Color, and People of Color to achieve a leveled playing field in Economics, Society and Education. In addition, a catered meal will also be part of the festivities. The HAPI mission is to show how local initiatives, strong communities and creativity can start a movement that can ultimately change our energetic, economic, and democratic systems.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
