Hidden Jewels Vintage was initially started because of my love for thrifting. I began thrifting as a kid with my mother due to our financial hardships. It went from something I was embarrassed about, to something I looked forward to once I started receiving praised for the looks I put together. People were astonished with the low cost! Hidden Jewels was founded to promote sustainable fashion, black woman owned businesses, and giving back to the community that has given so much to us!It is through Hidden Jewels that I started an initiative called Blaack Bazaar! As I began planning the launch event for HJV (Peerspace) I knew that I did not want to make this moment about me. It was then that I reached out to other local black owned businesses to sell their products at the event. Since then Blaack Bazaar has put on 4 events in Dallas, TX, serving over 400 customers so far with 22 Black owned businesses presenting their products! I have decided to make this not only a monthly event, but a traveling event! BB has already secured a huge space for May in Houston, TX for 25 Black owned businesses and June in Detroit, MI! I am excited to keep this trend going and continue to promote the growth of Black owned businesses. Most of our vendors have been able to SELL OUT!!!
As I have with the last 4 Blaack Bazaar events, I will be using this space for our next 2 events. This will really help as my partner and I have been coming out of pocket for most of the amenities provided during our events (i.e. open bar and food) We like for our guests to focus on spending with the businesses and enjoying the free event.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
