The cause I am working on is called Black Girls Been Theory, I am the founder. Black girls Been Theory is focused on animating the lives of Black girls and women, honoring the work we do daily to survive, it is about making space for ourselves to thrive. Black Girls Been Theory is about seeing everyday Black girls and women as theory.
If I were to win and receive this credit, I would use the money to book multiple spaces to film Black Girls Been Theory - The Series. I would conduct hour long interviews with various Black girls and women, one at a time, discussing their experiences as Black girls and women in Detroit and more broadly, the U.S. We would discuss the ways Black girls and women navigate oppressive systems like capitalism, colonialism, patriarchy, and white supremacy while resisting stereotypes and essentialist interpretations of who they are.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
