I'm working on a documentary film that highlights and educates on the many instances of police brutality and killings of black women that are overlooked and forgotten. In addition, justice has not been served for any of the brutality cases involving police and black women with an exception of 1 elderly woman who was killed by police who mistaking raided her home. Black women seem to be forgotten even with the Black Lives Matter Movement, unintentionally. There are about 3 black women highly but hundreds that have unjustly been killed by police.
The space will be used to conduct the documentary interviews which includes academic scholars in this field, psychologists and family members of women killed by police. These interviews will be taking place in the NY/NJ and DMV areas.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
