About this project

Their cause

I have been dedicated to creatively and articulately spreading anti-racism. I believe that if we understand each other more and realize that we all go through struggles that are hidden behind closed doors, it could bring us closer to unity. As an African-American woman in the entertainment industry and an American Descendant of Slavery it is not only my passion, but I feel it is my duty to speak on behalf of those who are fighting through similar obstacles regardless of color. Though my narratives are from a black perspective, my goal is to reach a universal audience so we can all have seats at the table and finally resolve what's been holding us back from being the best versions of ourselves.

How they'll use their space

I have a partner in my artistic endeavor who assists me with video production. Though this is an ideal situation obtaining quality sets and spaces that will keep an audience's attention can be difficult. My forte is telling harsh truths in an artistic manner, so the more creative I get with set design the hope is that more people will stick around until the end and listen to my message. The song is a hyper-pop style song with a grim hook: The black kids are emo Getting high on a C-note What the f*ck else do we know? Give me something to lean on, lean on. The dichotomy of a lo-fi-beat with a danceable bass line against the lamenting of the words will make people want to dance and vibe at first, but eventually examine the message. I have a WAV file and Mp3 mixed and mastered for you review at your request. My current vision is a slow motion video of me in an all black suit, heavy eyeliner, and my natural dreadlocks surrounded by smoke (a fog machine.) A space that is pitch black with a source of light or a very colorful space that would add to the dichotomy of my being the physical representing of depression would be ideal. The song is currently 2 minutes and 5 seconds..

What is Space for Change?

Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.

Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.

Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
