Being in the personal development industry for a decade, I️ have recognized that healing in inner cities often goes overlooked and is centered around those who hold more privileged identities. To change the narrative, my mission is empowering marginalized communities to heal through fostering imagination, conversation, and practices such as meditation. My event, Dare to Dream, is a workshop that serves as a blend of sound healing, conversation, and evoking regenerative action. During our time together we meditate, have community discussions, create personalized action plans, and together we create a container that’s uplifting, nurturing, and supportive of our experiences dreams. With each workshop part of the proceeds go to a local organization in the city of Compton to benefit the community. The past 2 Dare to Dream events have raised over $2600 to donate to two non-profit organizations, The Compton G.IRLS club and Color Compton.
I️ plan to use the space for the next Dare to Dream, which would be so lovely to have in person. Having in person connections helps participants bond in such a beautiful way, and I️ have found that afterwards friendships, networking opportunities, and possibilities come online when people can shift out of their environment and into a place where their healing is prioritized and centered. We will do sound healing, journaling, and have intimate conversation on our blocks and limitations, so we can be realistic about our goals and help each other move through challenges.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
