A Little Day Brunch is a community that brings women from all ethnic backgrounds, passions, and purposes in life to come together to grow within ourselves and within our connectivity with one another. We focus on who a woman is at the core instead of what they look like on and off paper. ALDB strives to be the home for every woman's revolution. Through our events, we commit to curating spaces that empower women's voices and champions their individual stories as our own. Since its inception, ALDB allows our guests not only the opportunity to be educated by others' experiences, stories, and knowledge, but also to engage in unique conversations within a warm and safe environment. This specific event will be about Mental Health Awareness with a panel full of 2-3 therapists. We specifically will be highlighting Asian therapists in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The breakdown will be two Asian therapists and one Black therapist. With everything going on in both communities, it is important that our audience feels heard, seen and protected. I am connected to this because I personally have seen what therapy has done for me over the past 16 months. Having an outlet to heal, and address trauma has not only made me better, but it has encouraged my own family and friends to address their healing. However, getting mental health care is not affordable by everyone, but it is owed to everyone. Especially with everything that minority groups face on a day to day basis. Therefore, I take it as my job to utilize my women's organization as a space where women can have an open discussion with therapists as they navigate our climate.
This space will be used to as the home to our project. I always host our brunches and dinners at houses, because homes are where people feel safest at. If people can break down those walls, and come in with vulnerability, then so much storytelling and connectivity can take place. There will be a meal prepared in the kitchen of the home, along with a beautiful decorated ambiance provided, so the women feel special and pampered. We always ensure that our prices are kept as low as possible, so winning this grant will help us achieve that. I have come about $20,000 out of pocket putting on these events throughout the years, because I have seen the impact of our 200+ in person events (pre-covid) being filled up in mere weeks. This lets me know that the space is needed, but people have to be able to afford them. I think it is unfair that healing and community have such expensive price tags associated with them, so I always refuse to have that be apart of the women's community I am building.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
