Hi there, Quitting my 9-5, I found myself feeling lost in my ability to produce a creative thought. I've struggled through cleanses, meditations, travels, quarantines, and part time gigs hoping I would repair my mind + find my voice. In that time, I've realized I needed to make this voice as I go long and not allow the very real constraints of being black and unsupported to slow my pace. Admittedly, some days it does, but this year, I've found a creative family that inspire me past it. I am working with a group of incredible black creatives to produce a piece and work that is smart, hilarious, and relevant to our community and world. Our creative prowess is our cause and it has been under attack before we could even realize our dreams. Over the years, many of my team have produced the work of others; awaiting for opportunities to actualize our talent. In 2021, my team is dedicated to uplifting our voices and funneling our point of view into this space.
If I win the space, I will use it as a set to practice & film skits & improvisation for a season one of show I am developing. As well as, a space for collaborating, creating, & meeting throughout our production process.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
