ABOUTIn times of uncertainty and isolation, art and community is needed more than ever. With challenges around work, small businesses staying afloat, and familial stress, people are longing for a brighter future that is beyond going back to where we came from. The East Bay is yearning to come together and heal, and are looking to community leaders like ourselves to lead the way. HOMEBODY”“Homebody” explores themes of identity within the self and within the larger community we call home. Isolation has affected the way we look at ourselves and each other; we have been existing together, apart. Through social media and video conference calls, our bodies are represented digitally through today’s technology. As we yearn for connection, we both resent, and enjoy, the solitude. All the while our bodies are morphing perpetually through time, space, and new dimensions.
ACTIVATION We will bring a new experience with the aim to fill a void that has developed over the last year with an inspiring, world renowned artist and an incredible space designed for engaging community. Through a safe and distanced art installation in 10,,000 square feet, viewers will engage with Hueman’s pieces in 2D and 3D VR projections on beautiful white walls. The theme of this installation explores looking inward to ourselves, within the larger community we call home. With a percentage of tickets donated, partnerships with local businesses, and led by people of color, this is a direct action step to support the community through the arts.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
