About this project

Their cause

RECLAIM is a virtual retreat for Black joy and wellness that utilizes the power of sound healing, yoga and meditation to encourage the reclamation of Black voices. As Black creatives, we’ve experienced times when we felt that our voices were silenced and our lives devalued. It’s essential that the RECLAIM Retreat be held in a beautiful and safe space where workshop leaders can help participants to reclaim their power of authentic self-expression and to heal their ability to speak out against injustice. This workshop is created to delve deeply into the root causes of stifling pain on the mind, body and soul. It will be a practical wellness sangha that helps innovators and artists to surmount the injustices of their past and to draw creative energy from their highest and best selves. As sound healing artist and designer, I am one of the organizers of this retreat. I am a composer and soundbath vocalist who creates meditation music under the name WATA. My Soundbath Healing sessions are designed to help participants to connect to their Higher Self by touching their hearts, soothing their minds and clearing their chakras. The goal is to illuminate aspects within that enable self-healing. I lead the participants to their Divinity, so that their inner healer feels supported and encouraged.I am organizing the RECLAIM Retreat in collaboration with Get Healed and The Mindful Creative. We’re hosting this virtual healing retreat for ## in-person workshop leaders and ## virtual seats for participants. I have invited several prominent healers to film content for the RECLAIM virtual healing experience, which includes a vocal meditation soundbath by me; a self-love focused journaling exercise by Alaji Marie of Get Healed; a meditation led by Ian Davis of the Mindful Creative.

How they'll use their space

We plan to use this space for filming and photographing content for the virtual retreat as well as a way for us to all connect in person for the first time. The space will allow us to film beautiful, professional content for the virtual space and also allow us as facilitators to connect in person. The space will give us the opportunity to connect with a natural landscape and escape the buzz of the city in order to create content for our community Programming: We currently have this programming outlined for the retreat: -A vocal soundbath experience led by WATA -A Guided meditation and yoga flow led by Ian Davis of the Mindful Creative -A Journaling exercise and vocal exercises by Alaji Marie -A sound healing experience led by Brandon and Elliette Holman of The Mindful Creative - An exercise on reclaiming the voice by WATA

What is Space for Change?

Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.

Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.

Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
