The cause of this project and of Pacific Arts Movement as a whole is to support Asian American voices and inspire compassion in BIPOC communities. Specifically, Kommunity is a 60-second documentary type episodic that tells the stories of people in our communities and their Asian American experience. I pitched it, knowing that Pacific Arts Movement was the perfect platform to bring this kind of work to the forefront, especially with the surge of AAPI hate in recent events. We will premiere in May in honor of Asian History Month.
We want to find space that is emulative of the immigrant experience. Warm tones and vintage antiques would be the perfect backdrop for these individuals to show us their process.
Peerspace is on a mission to bring people together. We believe it is impossible to achieve that goal unless we also fight for equality and access to resources in the communities we serve.
Having a space to gather, create, and exchange ideas is an important part of any movement. In order to magnify voices that are often quieted, Peerspace will sponsor venues for people who challenge prejudice and fight for social justice and equality.
Each quarter, we will sponsor space for three projects that are relevant to our community. These projects can range from fundraisers and educational initiatives to art exhibits and photo series.
